Photogenic Sweets along the Nankai Line
There are plenty of photogenic sweets along the Nankai Line! This time, I’ll introduce about four recommended spots. If you ever feel like being healed by some delicious sweets, be sure to check them out!
Located about a 3-minute walk from Nakamozu Station, “Canele-ya”is a takeout-only, first-of-its-kind canelé specialty store in southern Osaka. The store, with its charming Japanese-modern decor, offers a colorful array of canelés.
Opened with the hope of making canelés a new staple souvenir of Sakai, “Canele-ya”enjoys a steady stream of customers thanks to its convenient location near the station.
The shop always has eight varieties of canelés, with two of them being seasonal and changing every month and a half. The flavors are crafted with meticulous attention, using different types of alcohol in the batter and adjusting the sweetness. Each canelé is small enough to allow for tasting multiple flavors.
The most popular flavor is the plain canelé, which lets you fully enjoy the taste of the batter. The exterior is crispy, the inside is chewy, and the subtle sweetness is just perfect. The bite-sized pieces make you want to eat several at once.
You can purchase canelés individually, but for a tasting experience, the set of eight different flavors is recommended. There are also gift sets of 12 or 16 canelés, making them perfect for gifts. Whether you drop by on a whim or choose them as a special gift, “Canele-ya”is loved by the locals. Be sure to visit!
A 5-minute walk from Kaizuka Station, "Kuritokura + Tartorta Kaizuka" is famous for its freshly squeezed Mont Blanc.
The first floor has only counter seats, providing a calm space where you can easily drop by alone. The Mont Blanc also comes in half sizes, so it's recommended to try two different flavors. There are also spacious seats on the second floor.
There are three types of Mont Blanc bases. "Kuri" features a classic style with crispy meringue, sponge cake, and fresh cream. "Kura" uses homemade vanilla gelato. "Tarto" is characterized by its fragrant tart crust. The Mont Blanc flavors are available in Japanese chestnut and purple sweet potato. Deciding which base to pair with which cream is part of the fun.
At "Kuritokura + Tartorta Kaizuka," you can enjoy freshly made Mont Blanc right in front of you.
From Wakayama-shi Station, transfer to a bus and get off at "Shin-Wakaura", just a short walk away. "80 ESPRESSO WAKAURABASE" is a cafe renovated from an old-established inn. You can leisurely enjoy coffee and sweets while overlooking Wakaura Bay.
As you ascend the retro staircase and open the door, you'll be greeted by a sophisticated and modern entrance. It's said that black Goiishi stone is used for the flooring, and Kishu blue stone for the walls. From the counter seats, you can enjoy a panoramic view of the tranquil port town.
The cafe's tableware is said to be sourced from the inn's storage. You can feel the sense of the owner, who is also involved in design work.
Espresso using specialty coffee in original blends serves as a hidden flavor in the sweets. Try various espressos depending on your mood of the day.
"80 ESPRESSO WAKAURABASE" is imbued with the desire for visitors to stop by while exploring the wonderful spots of Wakaura and Sagasaki. Enjoy a moment deciding on your next destination while looking at maps and guidebooks displayed in the shop.
Just a 5-minute walk from Suwanomori Station. Nestled in a corner of the retro townscape, "kokoro to cacao" is a Western confectionery shop offering chocolates, delicate and photogenic cakes, and baked goods. Created with the concept of "bringing small happiness to ordinary daily life," their sweets are perfect for when you want to take a moment to relax.
For their chocolate sweets, they carefully select different types of chocolate for each creation. It's recommended to try and compare them to enjoy the differences in taste and aroma.
kokoro to cacao strives to use as few additives as possible, and they pay attention to both the appearance and taste of their sweets. As they frequently introduce new products, you can look forward to encountering different sweets each time you visit.
