It is said that "Inu no Hi (The day of the dog) is auspicious" because dogs have a light birth and protect their babies by pursuing evil spirits like guardian dogs.

Sumiyoshi Taisha, the head office of 2,300 Sumiyoshi shrines nationwide, is a shrine that is famous for praying for easy delivery. It is said that Empress Jinko (The god of the 4th Hongu) returned safely even she was pregnant, thanks to the godliness of the shrine. After that, from the legend that she gave birth to Emperor Ojin, it is said that "Sumiyoshi Taisha has the benefit of safe delivery."
At Sumiyoshi Taisha, prayers for safe delivery are accepted every day, not just on the day of the dog. Moreover, no reservation is required. After having the priest perform a prayer and a congratulatory speech, you will be awarded a "girth", "child protection amulet", and "birthstone amulet" as a hand-down.
The prayer for safe delivery is sacred. Please note that shooting photos during prayer is prohibited.
