Sakai Risho no Mori (Sakai Plaza of Rikyu and Akiko)

Sakai Risho no Mori (Sakai Plaza of Rikyu and Akiko) opened on March 20, 2015 as a cultural tourism facility to widely promote Sakai's unique history and culture based on the theme of Sen no Rikyu and Yosano Akiko, two figures associated with Sakai.

Sen no Rikyu House site

Sen no Rikyu, who was born in Sakai and developed the Wabicha style of tea ceremony, is known as the founder of the Senke school of tea ceremony and the tea saint. He wielded power as the greatest tea master in Japan, and is known as the founder of the Sen family of tea ceremony and the tea saint. At the site of the mansion, there is a camellia well and a well house built from old parts of the gate of Daitokuji Temple, which was associated with Rikyu.

Ohama Park

Ohama Park opened in 1879 and is the oldest Sakai City park. (Prefectural Hamadera Park opened in 1873). The park is used for sports and recreation, with a baseball field, outdoor swimming pool, gymnasium, tennis courts, sumo wrestling arena, monkey breeding house, and Sotetsuyama.

Old Sakai Lighthouse

This 11.3-meter-high, hexagonal, spindle-shaped lighthouse was built in 1877 at the southern wharf of Sakai's Old Port. After land reclamation had completed its role, the lighthouse was preserved as one of the symbols of Sakai and is designated as a national historic site as the oldest wooden Western-style lighthouse existing in Japan.
